The Department of Defence Production will engage a top consultancy firm to draw up the DPR, while interactions with the MSMEs will help incorporate expectations of local industry into the development of the corridor.
These interactions began at Hosur on Monday and will be followed by Coimbatore (March 5), Salem (March 7), Chennai (March 10) and Tiruchirappalli (to be decided soon).
Senior officials from Ministry of Defence, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Ordnance Factories will participate. These interactions are held with the active participation of the local small-scale industries associations and state government representatives.
Following Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s announcement of setting up two defence production corridors in the country, one of which will be in Tamil Nadu, DT Next had earlier reported that the proposed defence quad will extend from Chennai, encompassing, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchirappalli – cities which already have a dynamic presence of MSMEs into defence production.
