According to the police, the incident happened at 8.15 am. The gang which arrived in two cars threw chilli powder on the deceased identified as Senthil Kumar, assistant professor at a private engineering college in Tirunelveli, who was standing near the gate of the house. Sensing trouble Senthil tried to escape, but the gang chased him and threw a crude bomb at him. In the impact Senthil died on the spot.
His mother-in-law Vijayalakshmi was also attacked by the gang. On hearing Vijyalakshmi’s screams her husband ‘Kodiyankulam’ Kumar rushed outside, but in the meantime, the gang absconded.
The family members took Senthil to the Palayamkottai General Hospital, but he was declared brought dead. Palayamkottai Police were informed and they rushed to the spot.
