The Tiruvallur police reportedly arrested two maoists — Dhasarathan (35) and his wife Shenbagavalli (30) — along with Dhasarathan’s brother Veerapandian (39) on February 10 after they were reportedly holding discussions in the house of Veeerapandian. Subsequently, they were produced in court and were lodged in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, the Q-Branch police sought the custody of the couple for five days for quizzing during which they found that the couple were staying at Kovilpatti by renting a house in an apartment owned by a person called Rani, a teacher. Dhasarathan had told Rani he was working as a painter and his wife was a nursing assistant at a hospital in Pudukkottai.
Based on their confession, the police led by Tiruvallur DSP Pugalenthi and Q-Branch inspector Pugazh brought the couple and Veerapandian to Pudukkottai in the early hours and grilled them separately. They also took them to an apartment on the Thirukokarnam-Kovilpatti road where the couple was staying.
The special team, with the local police opened the house which was locked and seized laptops, pendrives, hard disks, sim cards and pamphlets containing revolutionary ideas. Later, they interrogated Rani who told them that the couple introduced themselves as lovers from Pattukottai who had eloped and wanted to start a fresh life. Believing them, she had offered her house on rent without even getting an advance amount.
