Child dies in ‘tug-of-war’ between parents
A dispute between a woman and husband as to who should lift the baby claimed the life of a two-year-old child at village near Gudiyattam on Friday.
Vellore
Police said Ganesan (27) of Ramalai near Gudiyattam, a daily wage earner, used to have frequent quarrels with his wife Sivaranjani (21) over various issues.
On Thursday night, Ganesan came home drunk and his wife picked up a fight with him. When Ganesan tried to lift and cuddle their two-year-old son Sarvesh, Sivaranjani objected stating that he should not lift the child when he was drunk. In the ensuing melee both pulled the child to get it from the others’ hands. In the tug-of-war, the child fainted.
Shocked by this, the parents rushed him to Gudiyattam GH from where he was referred to the Vellore Government Pentland Hospital. Sarvesh succumbed on Friday morning without responding to treatment.
