Tamil Nadu budget to have 14 schemes to develop Tamil language
State minister Ma Foi K Pandiarajan said here on Tuesday that around 14 schemes would be announced for the development of the Tamil Language in the upcoming state budget and that several departments would be established in the Tamil University to revive the individuality of the language.

Speaking at the award distribution function organised by the South Zone Cultural centre here, the minister said, language, arts and culture are interlinked and several programmes have been planned to develop Tamil. With a focus on developing the language, as many as 14 schemes would be introduced in the budget, he said. Stating that there are 25 department in the university, Pandiarajan said each discipline would have a department and efforts would be made to undertake research on Siddha medicine. Music and fine arts would also be revived. Steps would also be initiated to distribute the ‘Kalaimamani’ award to 300 experts.Â
Meanwhile, the Tamil Valar Maiyyam on a par with the Hindi Prachara Sabha, would be established through the Tamil University and works would be initiated to develop Tamil as the second or third language across the world. Through the Tamil Valar Maiyyam, Tamil arts and culture would be taken to the world. Similarly, a glossary of words like that available in English would also be introduced through which the significance of the Tamil language could be spread across the world. He added that mere announcement of Tamil as a Classical Language would never develop it, but its reputation should be spread across the globe. Earlier, he said the state government planned to collect Rs 40 crore within a week for the Harvard Tamil Chair and it would be handed over shortly.
