Stalin for CBI probe into TRB scam
Leader of Opposition MK Stalin has urged the state to transfer the probe into polytechnic lecturer appointment scam to the CBI.
Chennai
Pointing out that the marks of candidates, who secured between 130 and 150 and appeared for scrutiny of certificates had been reduced to 45-50 later, Stalin said that there were anomalies in marks of nearly 200 candidates.
Refusing to believe that the scam has taken place only among a few lower level employees, Stalin accused the government of trying to cover up the scam.
Stating that the announcement of Teachers’ Recruitment Board, annulling the September 16, 2017, tests conducted for appointment of lecturers for polytechnics, was testament to the extent of corruption in recruitments in the AIADMK regime, the DMK working president said and questioned the decision of the TRB to cancel the tests in toto instead of annulling the results of only those who were involved in irregularities. Referring to the reported booking of 156 cases and slapping of Goondas Act on a few, Stalin questioned the logic behind the case not being handed over to the CBI.
Asking the state to explain if irregularities were committed in evaluation of manuscripts of just 156 candidates or all 1,058. Stalin said there was a risk of people losing faith in the TRB and other institutions that recruit people for government service.
Congress, DMK are like couple: TNCC chief
Dismissing reports on friction between his party and the DMK, state Congress president Su Thirunavukkarasar said the two parties were functioning in tandem like a couple. The TNCC chief, explaining the demerits of the Union Budget in a meeting in the city, said, “The DMK and the Congress are functioning like husband and wife. So, the question of friction between us does not arise.” His assertion comes close on the heels of DMK working president MK Stalin asserting that he would not repeat the ‘mistake’ of allying with the BJP. Earlier in the day, All India Mahila Congress leader Nagma accused the government of making empty promises in the budget.
