While one is a temple car with wheels, the other, referred to as ‘Sapparam’, is carried by devotees on their shoulders. Both were parked on the empty ground behind the Salai Gangaiamman temple. Based on alert from locals, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and put out the blaze.

Sathuvachary police have registered a case, and fingerprint experts inspected the spot.

Police suspect anti-social elements, who usually consume liquor in the area, to have caused the fire.

Meanwhile, Hindu Munnani cadre in Vellore attempted to conduct a road roko demanding protection for Hindu temples, especially after the recent blaze in the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple. Police persuaded them to give up the move by promising to investigate  the incident.
