I-T raids at textile chain for tax evasion

A team of around 50 I-T officials came in 10 cars to carry out the searches at Bharani Silks and its sister concerns on RKV Road in Erode. They entered the shops around 10 am and put up from inside. The staff and workers, barring senior officials, were asked to leave the showrooms. The searches continued until late in the night. 

Official sources said the searches were made following complaints of largescale tax evasion. The I-T officials audited the stocks and billed sales to ascertain if there was any discrepancy. Several other textile shops located on RKV Road faced tense moments due to the co-ordinated search in the chain of stores. 

Similar searches were conducted by the I-T officials at a showroom on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore as well. The I-T officials, however, refused to reveal if any indiscriminating documents were seized during the raids.
