AIADMK, TTV gear up for Jaya anniversary
As the ruling AIADMK gears up to turn former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary into a big show of strength with the unveiling of her bronze statue at the party headquarters, RK Nagar MLA TTV Dinakaran’s supporters on Friday discussed arrangements to celebrate the event.
Chennai
Dinakaran’s supporters, including the 18 disqualified MLAs, gathered at their leader’s residence in the city and discussed the preparations for the celebrations on February 24.
Later, one of the disqualified MLAs Thangathamizhselvan said, “We have decided to provide welfare assistance to the needy people on Amma’s birth anniversary. The functions to distribute the welfare assistance would be held throughout the state.” The ruling party had started its plans earlier and the arrangements were discussed in the party’s district secretaries meeting held on February 2.
The setting up of a memorial for Jayalalithaa on the Marina had been dragging on for more than a year due to legal hurdles. The leadership had decided to install the leader’s bronze statue at the party headquarters near the party founder MGR’s statue to enthuse the cadre.
The statue unveiling function in Chennai will be the focus of the ruling party’s celebrations, while Dinakaran’s supporters have planned scattered celebrations throughout the state.
The AIADMK too will arrange functions in all the districts and distribute welfare assistance to mark the occasion.
