A team of DVAC personnel, led by DSP Rajesh Kumar, raided the VC’s office, copied the contents from computers in a hard disk. They also held an inquiry with Registrar (in-charge) B Vanitha on the ‘deals’ carried out by A Ganapathy and director of Distance Education Mathivanan.

The vigilance team entered the Bharathiar University around 12.15 pm and held inquiries for nearly an hour. The search comes a day after Governor Banwarilal Purohit suspended Ganapathy from the post of Vice-Chancellor, who was caught red handed while receiving bribe to confirm the job of an assistant professor to a person in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, sources in the BU said that some persons, who too were involved in the corrupt appointments made by Ganapathy, had already taken away several files and evidences from the office.

    Governing committee to be formed

In the absence of the Vice Chancellor, it has been decided to form a governing committee to oversee administration and daily affairs of the university. The committee, which is to be headed by Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal, will have a Governor’s nominee and two other members of the syndicate committee. A meeting will be convened on Thursday to choose the committee members.

In an expected development, an order on suspending the Director of Distance Education Mathivanan will also be issued at the meeting to be presided over by Sunil Paliwal.

His appointment has also come under scanner as the Vice Chancellor appointed Mathivanan, who was working as a principal in a BUs constituent college in Erode district, violating norms and ignoring objections from former Registrar Senthil Vasan and others.
