According to sources, Kalum Sathyanarayana (32) from Andhra Pradesh was travelling with his friends Karam Veerababu (23), Kalum Bappanadura (20) and Kalum Samidura (20) from Vijayawada to Tirupur. They had boarded the Jamshedpur- Alappuzha Bokaro Express and as the train was nearing Samalpatti in Krishnagiri district around 8.30am, a group of transgenders entered the coach and were demanding money from the passengers.Â
When they approached Sathyanarayana and his friends, they refused to pay and soon got into an argument with the transgenders. As the altercation heated up, one of the transgenders kicked Sathyanarayana – who was sitting at the entrance of the coach and he fell out of the train.
One of his hands came under the wheels and he died on the spot. One of his friends, Veerababu, who jumped off the train to help him sustained serious injuries to the head. Others instantly pulled the chain and brought the train to a halt. The transgenders made use of this and fled the spot.Â
Passengers alerted the railway and Samalpatti police personnel, who rushed to the spot, retrieved the body. Veerababu was sent to the Uthangarai General Hospital. As his condition worsened, Veerabapbu was referred to Salem Medical College for advanced treatment. The Samalpatti police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the group of transgenders.
