Sasikumar murder case handed over to NIA
More than a month after Tamil Nadu CB-CID arrested A Mubarak, the main suspect in the 2016 murder of Hindu Munnani functionary C Sasikumar in Coimbatore, the Union Home Ministry has ordered the National Investigation Agency to undertake a fresh probe into the killing.

“NIA is taking over the case related to murder of Sasikumar in Coimbatore,” a NIA official noted.
Sources noted that the central agency had informed that though the CB-CID had arrested the suspects, the investigation into the case was not properly carried out.
It was also felt that many angles were not probed enough with CBCID not invoking proper sections of law while apprehending the suspects.
The MHA had also seemed to have believed that the arrests were carried out after negotiations with certain Muslim outfits and the case should have been probed under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, which comes under NIA’s scheduled offence list.
It may be recalled that Mubarak was picked up from Pollachi on December 25, 2017. Special Investigation Division of CB-CID in October further arrested S Subair, of Ukkadam and Syed AButhair in connection with the murder.
On the night of September 22, 2016, a gang on bikes created an accident like situation which led to Sasikumar falling off from his two-wheeler. The gang later later hacked him to death. The murder had created unrest in the western region of the state for two days immediately after the killing.
