The school declared holiday till Monday, while police pickets were posted outside the school premises at Sathuvachary to avoid any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, Sivalingam, father of injured Class 11 student Navin, petitioned Vellore collector SA Raman seeking action against the management for alleged negligence.

The boy’s grandfather Mayazhagu handed over the petition to officials at the collectorate.

Meanwhile police are still searching for the gas balloon seller Ganapathy who took to his heels immediately after the explosion. Suspecting that he, too, could have been injured in the blast that killed 17-yearold Jitin, police team visited the hospitals in the neighbourhood to check whether Ganapathy had taken treatment at any of them.

The mishap happened around 4.30 pm on Wednesday when a helium-filled kept at the CMC Ground at Bagayam to fill the gas in balloons exploded. The debris hit a two-wheeler before smashing Jitesh’s head, killing him on the spot. Navin, who was injured in the incident, has been admitted to CMC Hospital for treatment.
