As many as 15 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, engaged by a private company, had left the shores of Dubai on October 22. While they were fishing, the Iranian Navy had arrested and taken them away to Kish island, where they have been kept as prisoners. Soon, two of them identified as Viniston of Kanniyakumari and Craslin of Thoothukudi reportedly suffered from health problems such as diabetes and chest pain. Subsequently, the Indian embassy was contacted and medicines were supplied to them.

But now with the passing of four months, the fishermen have still not been released. This has led to the health condition of Craslin becoming worse. Speaking to DT NEXT, Justin Antony, Founding President, International Fishermen Development Trust, said Craslin’s blood pressure and sugar levels had gone up and that is seriously ill. He demanded the state and central governments to take steps to release the 15 fishermen from Iran and to bring them back to India. “Both the governments must intervene and rescue our men,” Antony said.
