Senthil Balaji files contempt plea against Karur Municipality
Former Minister, Senthil Balaji, filed a contempt petition against Karur Municipality for not complying with the orders of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court in granting permission for conducting MGR centenary function in Karur.
Madurai
The High Court, on Wednesday, had directed the Karur Municipal Commissioner to appear in the Court on January 31. Senthil Balaji, in his petition, had stated that he had submitted a petition to Karur Municipality seeking permission to conduct MGR centenary function in Karur, on January 18. Along with it, he had proposed to conduct various sporting events in Tiruvalluvar ground in Karur and also to arrange a public meeting in which sidelined lined AIADMK leader, TTV Dinakaran, along with his supporters, would participate. He had also sought police permission for the public meeting.
However, Karur Municipality and the police had refused permission for the meeting. When he had approached High Court, the Court, on January 23, had given direction to submit a fresh petition to Karur Municipality to conduct meetings from January 27 to 29.Â
When a fresh petition was filed, the Karur Municipality refused to grant permission. Therefore, the Court should treat this as contempt of Court and action should be taken on Karur Municipality officials, prayed Senthil Balaji.
