Theni techie’s ‘Hagway’ app controls household devices from afar

Vijayaraja from Thevaram village is a passionate techie. “Becoming an engineer was my childhood dream. After completing engineering I thought of doing something better for the society and so designed the system that would help people monitor their houses even if they are not present there,” he said.

Vijayaraja completed his masters in Electronics and Communication Engineering in Guindy College of Engineering in 2015. He developed an algorithm for his final year project of making homes smarter.

“After completing my masters, I developed the algorithm further into a project and successfully developed an app for the same,” he said speaking to DT Next.

Explaining the theme of the single mobile app, he said it can control and protect all the electronic and electrical appliances through WiFi from anywhere in the world.

This is made possible through a wireless enabler module in the devices. The module is a small machine which is 3 cm long, 2 cm broad and 3.5 cm in height. With the range of 300 metres, the devices can be operated in WiFi without any internet connection and only if the range becomes high, a separate 4G enabled sim card should be fixed to the module to operate the particular device.

For instance, if a motor, fixed in a farm land, needs to be operated from home, the module with a SIM card need to be fixed and can be operated through the app. Similarly, CCTV cameras can be monitored with the help of the app.

Non-electric items such as doors and gates can also be operated with the app, Vijayaraja informed.

The app has been named ‘Gemicates Hagway’ and is relatively cheaper when compared to other software available in the market. 

For an entire 2BHK house it would cost Rs 2 lakh to install such a system at the market rate. But, Vijayaraja is doing it for Rs 20,000 with the help of his friends.

Vijayaraja has also developed many an equipment since childhood. One of his well accredited projects is a voice controlled robot that he had developed during his undergraduate days.
