The tender worth around Rs 43.63 crore was floated a little over a week ago. Work order would be issued when the tender is opened on February 7.
Though PWD officers in the know of things refused to commit on the duration of the project, sources said the buildings wing has set a year’s deadline for completing the memorial, which lies within MGR memorial on the Marina.
Bids have been invited for the project even as the government was making efforts to convert the former chief minister’s Poes Garden residence into a memorial.
“Designs of the memorial has already been finalised at the highest level. It would be made public when the bids are opened next month,” a senior PWD officer attached to the buildings wing said under condition of anonymity.
The government had initially allocated Rs 15 crore for the memorial to be constructed at the rear of MGR’s memorial.
