PMK, VCK rap govt over reason cited for bus fare hike
The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has demanded the government to roll back the hike in bus fare. Its founder president Dr S Ramadoss termed the hike as ‘daylight robbery’. “The hike is unprecedented and the government has further burdened the common man,” he said.

“The government says that it has no option, as the transport department is facing a severe financial crisis. Since corruption has become rampant in all the government departments, people are largely affected,” said Ramadoss and demanded that the hike should be immediately rolled back.
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said, “Demonetisation and GST have made the government to hike the fare. The VCK party strongly condemns it.”
“It is ridiculous that the government has cited reasons such as increase in petrol price and this can no longer be accepted. Common man is already facing problem everyday due to increase in price of various commodities.
Under such circumstances, hiking bus fare is condemnable,” Thirumavalavan said.
Even the High Court did not direct the government to raise the bus fare, but the government has intentionally increased the fare to compensate the loss, he added.
