Plaque with O Panneerselvam’s name damaged
The stone tablet that was fixed beneath the 100-foot tall flag pole at Thoppur, to mark the merger of AIADMK factions, led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, on November 25, was found damaged on Thursday.
Madurai
Some persons, who found the stone tablet damaged, informed the police and a team from Austinpatti station rushed to the spot and found the stone tablet broken into pieces.
Police also found a few scratches on the face of Palaniswami engraved on the other side and liquor bottles close to the spot. After investigations, the police said that some unidentified men had consumed liquor near the flag pole the previous night and had damaged the stone tablet. Police also suspect that it could be a ploy by some miscreants to provoke the AIADMK cadre.
AIADMK functionaries blamed the supporters of TTV Dhinakaran, who has been sidelined in the party, behind the incident. However, a complaint was lodged by Tirupparankundram AIADMK functionaries and they demanded immediate arrest of those who damaged the tablet.
