On the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court questioning the legality of the jallikattu events held in the state early on Thursday, the Additional Advocate General (AAG) submitted the recent Government Orders (GOs) passed in 2018 in the afternoon. He argued that the three jallikattu events at Avaniyapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur were conducted according to the rules.

Petitioners MS Raja from Eruthazhuvuthal Padhukapu Sangam, Srivaikuntam and Jesumani from Ulagampatti village in Dindigul disrict, had filed separate petitions in the High Court seeking direction to conduct jallikattu in their respective villages.
When the petitions were clubbed and heard by Justice Bharathidasan, the counsel of the petitioners had submitted that the GOs were passed in 2017. The judge questioned the public prosecutor that why GOs were not passed for conducting jallikattu in 2018. “So, without passing a GO the jallikattu events conducted in Avaniyapuram, Palamedu and Alanganallur in 2018 are considered illegal,” he said and also raised the question that why jallikattu should not be banned.
As the PP, who argued did not present the GOs that were passed in 2018 in the morning before the Judge, AAG Chellapandian, submitted the GOs passed on January 12, this year in the afternoon. Following the submission, the hearing had been adjourned to Friday.
