CM Palaniswami, Deputy CM Panneerselvam inaugurate Alanganallur Jallikattu
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, jointly inaugurated the world famous Alanganallur Jallikattu, on Tuesday. This is the first time in the history of Jallikattu that a Chief Minister had inaugurated a Jallikattu event.

Palaniswami and Panneerselvam reached the venue at around 8 am and then inaugurated a photo exhibition on Jallikattu. Following that they both took selfies in front of a bull statue and then went to stage to flag off the event.Â
Safety pledge was administered and then temple bulls entered Vadivasal. Followed by temple bulls, Jallikattu bulls entered Vadivasal and bull tamers pounced on top of the bulls to tame them.Â
Prizes were raining in Alanganallur and for a single bull there were as much as 53 prizes. Best bull and best bull tamer would be given a car each and the two cars are sponsored by Palaniswami and Panneerselvam respectively. CM and Deputy CM had also sponsored gold coins for the bulls and bull tamers during the event.Â
'Komban', the bull of State Health Minister, C Vijayabaskar, is also standing in line to participate in Alanganallur Jallikattu. Bull of P Rajasekar, President of Jallikattu Peravai, before entering the Vadivasal, pounced and gored its own tamer and in the incident Rajasekar's brother sustained injuries. Then he was taken in 108 ambulance out of Jallikattu arena.Â
Madurai Collector, K Veera Raghav Rao, announced that the Jallikattu event would be extended by another hour and would conclude by 4 pm. A team from Animal Welfare Board of India (AWPI) headed by SK Mittal, Member, AWPI, are also monitoring the event.Â
State Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar, State Forest Minister Dindigul Srinivasan, State Dairy Minister KT Rajenthra Bhalaji, State IT Minister M Manikantan, and other MLAs participated in the event.Â
However due to the visit of CM and Deputy CM traffic at Alanganallur was closed at 2 am in the morning and so the villagers suffered as they could not travel even in their bikes to the neighbouring villages.Â
