32K apply for PDS salesmen posts

The high number of application is attributed to ‘no age bar’ criteria for the post, officials said. With nearly 70 posts being reserved for ex-servicemen, widows and physically handicapped, the competition for the remaining seats has now become intense, they added. 

The applicants include many engineering graduates and several others with masters’ degree in different disciplines, sources said. 

Interview will start from January 18 and go on till February 2. But the duration is likely to be extended in view of the large number of applicants. Officials said that selected candidates would get a salary of Rs 14,000 per month and that it is a government job were the main reasons for such a high competition. 

Recalling a similar high demand, an official, on condition of anonymity, recalled the time when Vellore cooperative milk producers’ union called for applications for the post of grade II supervisors some time ago. 

Approximately, 11, 000 candidates applied at that time, he said. Sorting out applications became a herculean task which could not be completed even after a lapse of two months. In fact, a separate room was allotted for the applications and their segregation, sources revealed.
