Sushma helps TN mom bring dead son home
Sushma helps TN mom bring dead son home A grieving mother from Tamil Nadu, whose son suddenly collapsed and died while they were at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, received a helping hand from Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to bring his body home.
Chennai
The minister intervened and instructed the Indian High Commission officials to make all the arrangements to accompany and assist the woman to reach Chennai with her son’s body, after she was alerted by a social media user.
The mother and son were travelling to Chennai from Australia, and were at the Malaysian airport on transit, when the son collapsed and died. “My Friend’s mom is alone in KLIA and don’t know much to get help,” tweeted Ramesh Kumar, who identified himself as a close friend of the son.
Making things worse for her, some persons at the airport sought a hefty amount to take the body home, Ramesh alleged. Responding to the SOS call, Vijay Dwivedi, Additional Private Secretary to the minister, alerted the Malaysian High Commission about the message, who in turn assured that they were in touch with the family.
Swaraj directed the officials in Kuala Lumpur to assist the mother in completing the formalities and bring the mortal remains to India. “The body will be flown to India at our expense.
An official of the Indian High Commission will escort the grieving mother to India,” tweeted the minister. Following up a few hours later, Swaraj confirmed that an official from the High Commission was accompanying the mother from Malaysia to Chennai, on Friday morning.
