    Enmity between first and third year students of an engineering college in Perambalur resulted in a clash between the two groups, on Wednesday.

    It is said that over ten 10 students were seriously injured in the clash and the college administration was forced to declare holiday for the institution till January 17 in order to prevent any further untoward incidents.

    College authorities said that the first year and third year students of Dhanalakshmi Srinivaan Engineering College, Perambalur, did not get along well for a long time. Both the group began quarrelling in the late hours on Tuesday and it lasted till early hours of Wednesday. The events took a turn suddenly and it snowballed into an assault in the college hostel and students not involved in the fight began to run helter-skelter for safety. However, as many as 10 students from both the sides were injured and a few properties of the hostel were also damaged.

    On information, the hostel warden rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation. The information was then passed on to the college administration in the late hours on Tuesday. The college authorities then decided to declare holiday for the college till January 17.

    The authorities also requested the students to leave for their respective native places soon after the clash to avert any incidents in the day time. Meanwhile, none of the students lodged a complaint and no case was filed by the police against any of the students.
