UIDAI shuts digital server, Aadhaar work hit in Vellore

With no advance notification, members of the public and those operating the e-seva centres and private agencies could not furnish any explanation regarding the shut down of the servers and when it would be resumed. 

As a result, the public will not be able to apply for new cards or carry out corrections in Aadhaar cards. This  Aadhaar distribution and error correction are an ongoing process similar to the smart cards for PDS beneficiaries and inclusion or deletion of names of new members in the electoral rolls. 

B Vijayasekar  of Sathuvachary, who applied to change his residential address in his Aadhaar card, now does not know when he will be able to do so as ‘officials are in the dark as to when the service will be restored.’ 

With the UIDAI official website not specifying any reason for the sudden shut down and local officials not able to answer questions of the public, a staff at the e-seva centre in Vellore said, “Even after the shut down, we get around 30 inquiries a day. The public get annoyed when we are unable to tell them when the service will be resumed.”
