D’puri couple seeks court protection

Twenty-year-old J Priyanka, a caste Hindu girl and her lover M Raj Kumar, a Dalit went missing since December 29 last year flaring up communal tension in their native Nallampalli village. Parents of the girl filed a case of abduction against Raj Kumar at Athiyamankottai police station.

At 9 am on Monday, the couple walked into the Judicial Magistrate court to claim that they were not kidnapped. The girl stated that she had willingly gone with Raj Kumar to get married. She said that after they got married, they had reportedly stayed in the house of the groom’s relatives in Uthangarai.

Priyanka informed that she decided to marry Raj Kumar against her parents will and both feared for their lives, she said. The court ordered the police to ensure protection for the couple and allowed the girl to live with Raj Kumar as both are majors.
