University circular sets off panic, turns out to be false
Students and faculty of Anna University and the affiliated colleges received a circular through social media that was titled, ‘Notification regarding final semester’, which the student community found to be strange. The circular was signed by the Controller of Examination, GV Uma.

One of the rules stated that from this year onwards, the students have to submit the project making video (from beginning to end of the project work). Students who fail to submit the video shall not be permitted to present the project, stated the circular.
Another rule stated that all the colleges were requested to not permit the students to undertake internships. If any of the students were already doing an internship, it was the college’s responsibility to retrieve the students back to college, failing which action would be taken against the college.
However, it soon emerged that the University had not issued any such circular.
S. Somasundaram, educationist and consultant with an engineering college, says, “I immediately started getting calls from students.
Everything about the circular was false, including the attendance criteria. Since it was signed by the Controller of Examination, people thought it was true. However, we did not receive any news officially and we immediately contacted the University.”
Soon, the University confirmed that the circular was fake. GV Uma, in a statement said, “I wish to inform that no such notification has been issued by this office and request you to ignore the entire content of this circular and intimate the facts to the students also.”
