Don’t use students to correct papers’
The Vellore district Chief Educational Officer (CEO) S Mars, in a communication to all government high and higher secondary school head masters, has threatened them with suspension if they used the services of students to correct answer scripts, sources revealed.
Chennai
This follows Vellore Collector SA Raman receiving numerous complaints from the public stating that senior students were being used by the teachers to correct half-yearly exam answer scripts and that even when students came across wrong answers, such scripts were given high marks, defeating the very purpose of conducting such examinations.
Sources said that a department level inquiry instituted by the CEO’s office proved that the charges were true. Following this, the CEO issued show cause notices to the concerned school heads, seeking an explanation for such conduct. Mars issued a circular stating that headmasters and teachers would be suspended if they resorted to the same tactics in future. Sources said this was the latest ‘misconduct’ among many of the teachers who in this district have a litany of complaints against them, including not attending classes regularly.
