Assembly session to come up ahead of MLAs disqualification case hearing

The composition of the House would only increase by 1 with the addition of independent MLA TTV Dinakaran which means the total members of the House would be 216, with 108 being the halfway mark and 109 as simple working majority.

The present number of AIADMK MLAs, including three alliance partners who contested in ‘Two Leaves’ symbol, is pegged at 117. This implies that AIADMK would not have any trouble in passing the motion of vote to thank Governor. Even if the motion fails, the Opposition can give only notice for a Floor Test to prove the majority. However, Floor Test is also a matter of sub judice, and the Speaker might point fingers on the court for not taking up the notice.

It is also pertinent to note that the three alliance partners had not favoured the BJP-friendly attitude of the ruling dispensation, and had already voiced their concerns in this regard.

Besides U Thaniyarasu, S Karunas and Thamimun Ansari there is Sulur MLA R Kanagaraj who had openly advocated that the ruling group should take steps to truck with Dinakaran, and to keep legislator-elect in running the party affairs as well. More are likely to express a rapport with Dinakaran who is expected to attend his maiden Assembly Session, and might embarrass the top brass of the ruling dispensation.
