Governor, CM, leaders extend Christmas greetings
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday greeted the Christians on the eve of Christmas, the birthday of Jesus Christ.

In his message, the Governor said, ‘’Christmas is a festival of merriment and joy. On this happy occasion, I convey my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all our Christian brothers and sisters, who are celebrating the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.” ‘’Lord Jesus Christ symbolised love, compassion and brotherhood. On the day of his birth let us resolve to foster peace, harmony and tolerance so as to create a better future for all mankind’’, the Governor said through a Raj Bhavan communique.
In his message, Chief Minister Palaniswami said the Christians celebrate the occasion by tastefully decorating and illuminating the Xmas trees in their house, put up stars, wear new dresses and participate in special midnight masses in churches.
Stating that former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had utmost care for the Christians, he said for the first time in India she had launched a scheme under which financial assistance was given to Christians to undertake a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Palaniswami said the government, which was functioning on the path laid down by her, has been implementing the scheme in an effective manner and so far, 2,800 Christians have undertaken the holy pilgrimage. He also appealed to all the people to follow the principles of sacrifice, forgiveness, love, peace, compassion and service to humanity as preached by Jesus Christ and extended his Christmas greetings to the Christians.
Leaders of various political parties also greeted the Christians on the occasion of Xmas.
Guv hosts special breakfast for Prez, HC Judges
Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday hosted a special breakfast in honour of President Ram Nath Kovind and the First Lady Savita Kovind at Raj Bhavan. Judges of the Madras High Court also attended it. Chief Justice Indira Banerjee introduced the Judges to the President and the First Lady during the special breakfast. R Rajagopal, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Governor, was present on the occasion. Later, Purohit saw off Ram Nath Kovind at the Chennai airport. CM Edappadi K Palaniswami and other dignitaries were present.
