Madurai
To monitor locked houses, Madurai police, on Thursday, launched a new app.
Named ‘Madurai Kavalan’, it was launched by Pradeep Kumar, DIG ( Madurai Range), in the presence of Madurai SP, Manivannan.
After launching the app, the DIG said that when people leave their homes locked (for a holiday or an emergency), they can feed the details of their address in the app. Then the address would be fed into the app’s server.
From the server, details of the locked houses would be sent to the concerned station and station-level monitoring would be undertaken regularly. By this way burglaries can be reduced largely, explained Pradeep Kumar.
Manivannan said that the app is free and after installing the app people can feed their basic details such as their name and contact details. Residents will also be asked to feed the details of their ID cards such as a voter ID or driving license or Aadhaar card. This is because the details of the ID cards would avoid duplication and unnecessary complications for the police department.
Once the person leaves his after keying in the details, policemen from the nearby station would visit the house regularly and maintain a strict vigil. He also said that if there is any movement of suspicious person in the locality, people can take photos and upload them in the app and it will in turn reach the nearest police station.
