District child officer files plea challenging termination order
The terminated District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) J Raja Meenakshi of Dharmapuri district, who levelled corruption allegations against Minister for Social Welfare and Nutritious Noon Meal Programme V Saroja, under whom the department functions, has moved the Madras High Court challenging her termination on September 21.
Chennai
Since the writ petition filed on September 25 challenging the termination failed to come up for hearing, Raja Meenakshi’s counsel made a mention before Justice T Raja on Wednesday, who agreed to hear it on January 4.
The petitioner had contended that she was appointed as DCPO by an order dated September 16, 2016, by the director, Social Defence and posted in Dharmapuri, for six months. After the end of the term, the contract was renewed for another six months. Meanwhile, she applied for transfer to Chennai and claimed that the minister demanded bribe for doing so.
In furtherance of the same, she and her staff were harassed leading to her lodging a complaint with the Chief Minister and other constitutional functionaries on May 8 last, she said and noted that an enquiry for allegedmis-conduct by the District Revenue Officer was also dropped as there were no prima facie materials to proceed against her.
While so, the non-renewal of her contract or any other similarly placed DCPO with ulterior motive, ran against the letter and spirit of the scheme, she contended.
