    Four killed in van-lorry collision near Palladam

    Four persons died and two others suffered critical injuries after the omni van they were travelling in collided head on with a container lorry near Palladam in Tirupur district on Tuesday.

    Police said Karthi and Maikkaraj, brothers from VS Nagar in Rakkipalayam, along with their four friends identified as Saravanan, Ajmir, Mohammed Moideen and Mohammed Hussain were returning home in their new omni vehicle from Coimbatore when the incident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday. 

    All the men were working in a knitwear unit and they came to Coimbatore to purchase spare parts for their van. While nearing Kuppuswamynaidupuram on the Coimbatore-Tiruchy National Highway, the van rammed the lorry bound for Kerala. 

    In the impact, the two brothers and their friends Saravanan and Ajmir were killed on the spot, while two others suffered grievous injuries. They were rushed to a private hospital in Tirupur. 

    The bodies of the deceased persons have been sent for post-mortem at Palladam Government Hospital. 

    Superintendent of Police, Tirupur district, ES Uma visited the spot, while the Tirupur rural police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
