We have initial ballistic and forensic reports suggesting that Munisekhar pulled the trigger. The bullet accidentally hit Periyapandian, the official said, adding, Munisekhar will be arrested after getting the final report and completion of other formalities. With the Rajasthan police pointing fingers at Kolathur inspector Munisekhar, the crucial question of who shot Periyapandian seems to have been finally answered. Reacting to the development, Chennai city police commissioner AK Viswanathan told DTNext that suitable departmental action will be taken against Munisekhar once they get a report on the forensic findings.

It may be recalled that senior Chennai police officers had been refusing to answer that question since Wednesday after Periyapandian was shot dead in an early morning operation in Pali district.

    Police team returns from Rajasthan

Two days after the funeral of Maduravoyal inspector Periyapandian, who was shot dead in Rajasthan while trying to nab a burglary gang relating to a gold heist in Kolathur, inspector Munisekar, who led the team, returned to Chennai along with others.
The inspector along with Head Constables S Gurmoorthy and N Embrose and Grade I police M Sudarsan on their arrival met the City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan at his office in Vepery on Saturday.
They were later admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
Munisekar said, one of the members of the robber gang had taken his gun and shot Periyapandian. On Wednesday itself he told his seniors over phone about it. The Chennai police had also apprised the Chief Minister of this the same day. Interestingly, Munisekhar told his relatives that he was hit by an iron pipe by a gang member when he took out the gun. In the impact, his gun fell and one of the gang members picked it up and shot Periyapandian.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner Santhosh Kumar who rushed to Rajasthan after Periyapandian’s death camped in Rajasthan to nab the accused. While Dinesh Choudry was arrested by Rajasthan police, a hunt is on for Nathuram.
