Land acquisition for Chennai-Bengaluru expressway nearing completion

Speaking to DT Next, Tamilrajan said the Vellore district stretch between Tirumalpur -- when entering Vellore district from Kancheepuram - and Mahimangalam on the district’s border with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, covered a total of 31 villages, from which a total of 1,400 acres land was required for the expressway.Â
Land acquisition notices were published and public hearings held for 25 villages, while notices were in the process of being published for the other six villages, said officials. Complaints by a couple of farmers in this area had resulted in the road alignment -- done through remote satellite sensing -- being changed, Tamilrajan added.Â
The proposed expressway will start from Hoskote near Bengaluru and ends in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Official travel time between both destinations was estimated at three hours and would help northern states which could access Chennai easily by entering the expressway at Hoskote.
According to officials, work was progressing to ensure that work commenced before July 2018.Â
The Vellore stretch would have toll plazas at both Banavaram and Melpadi and would be fully enabled to ensure speedy and comfortable travel, with minimum waiting time at toll plazas, according to sources.
