Police foil self-immolation bid by woman
A woman’s self-immolation bid was foiled on Monday. iled and she taken away by the Sathuvachary police on Monday.

Jayanthi (45) a widow residing in Kaveripakkam, came to the Vellore district Collectorate annoyed at officials for refusing her repeated pleas to have her land measured. Due to various self-immolation attempts, police thoroughly frisk all entrants, including those in vehicles, entering the Collectorate campus.
Jayanthi reportedly attempted to enter the campus with just a petition in hand, after dousing kerosene over herself. But suspicion was aroused due to the smell of kerosene emanating from her and when quizzed by the cops, she revealed the truth. She was taken away for questioning.
It maybe recalled that a few days ago, another woman tried to immolate herself near the Hanuman temple near the Collectorate as the person who surreptitiously converted her land to his name threatened her. The Collectorate is now well prepared for such emergencies.
