Increase CRPF presence: Opposition
Anticipating that there might be money distribution and bribing of voters in the RK Nagar bypoll, scheduled to be held on December 21, the DMK has demanded the Election Commission (EC) to install CCTVs in streets and deploy more number of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to prevent malpractices.
Chennai
said, “Ahead of by-election in Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly constituency, CRPF personnel have been drawn and deputed within the limit of the constituency. But, the numbers of CRPF personnel are inadequate.”
Stating that during the last-rescinded by-election, various election- related corrupt practices and illegal activities by anti-social elements had taken place in more number of places in the assembly constituency and it led the EC to rescind the election, the DMK leader noted, “In such a condition, it has become imperative for the EC to depute more number of CRPF personnel in the Assembly constituency.”
At least two CRPF personnel are required to be deputed in every street to monitor and curb the illegal activities, he urged. “Similarly, it is also necessary to install CCTVs at least in four places of every street, which would be more protective and for easy monitoring of all activities,” Bharathi pointed out.
Moreover, the Opposition party’s organising secretary requested the polling officials to permit DMK’s authorised representatives and agents deputed by the party’s candidate to watch the live visuals beamed from the CCTVs at the control room.
