On Friday, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss said, “The cyclone has battered the southern districts. Kanniyakumari district in particular’ has almost become a separate island. Under such circumstances, the government machinery is slowing down, which is highly condemnable.”
Stating that thousands of trees have fallen on the arterial roads affecting traffic, Anbumani said that the government should speed up relief works as rain has now begun to recede.
As four persons have died in the rain so far, the government should not show any negligence and it should bring rescue committees from other states and the Centre, he urged. Similarly, general secretary of the MDMK Vaiko demanded the government to take up relief works in Kanniyakumari district on a war footing.
