Even as the Madras High Court has decided to constitute a Full Bench to decide issues relating to verification of lawyers and eligibility of advocates for enrolment, an online verification system was launched at the Madras High Court on Saturday when as many as 815 law graduates were enrolled as advocates at the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (BCTP).
Chennai
The free online system developed by a batch of software developers from Indian Institute of Technology (Madras) (IIT-M) for BCTP is expected to shorten the time-consuming process as well as the voluminous paperwork involved.
Dr Ashok Junjunwala, professor, IIT-M, said through this new system verification can be done whenever and wherever required.
He said the engineers had worked several months to get it validated and that the system which will do away with the paper work and save time is bound to empower advocates in a big way.
Earlier, Justice Kurian Joseph, Judge, Supreme Court, who inaugurated the online verification system, called on the advocates who enrolled to uphold the Constitution and rule of law, which had a thread of social justice ingrained in it.
Justice R Banumathi, judge, Supreme Court, exhorted the young lawyers to be in SHAPE, which revolves around sincerity, honesty, ambitious, positive and equipping oneself with legal nuances.
Madras High Court Chief Justice Indira Banerjee presided. Advocate General Vijay Narayan and Additional Solicitor General G Rajagopalan offered felicitations. S Prabakaran, co-chairman, Bar Council of India, welcomed the gathering.
