In a letter to the cadre on Thursday, he hit out at the ruling party stating, “The useless government has mortgaged the state’s rights to Delhi and Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and O Panneerselvan have become a laughing stock in the state.”

Stating that the DMK introduced the Act when it was in power during 2006-11, Stalin noted “Such an Act paved the way for students from Class 1 to 10 to learn Tamil compulsorily. Firstly, the Act was introduced in Class 1 and it was gradually extended till Class 10.” However, former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa exhibited indifference towards this Act, he said. Even though more number of private schools filed litigations to avoid Tamil language, the court ruled in favour of the DMK’s commitment to ensuring everyone learned Tamil, he added.

Flaying the EPS-led government and the Education department for issuing a Government Order that exempted linguistic minorities from the Tamil Learning Act, the DMK leader further said, “When all other states provide priority to their respective languages, the government has been trying to destroy Tamil.”

“On the one hand, the Centre remains firm on imposing Hindi in the state, and on the other, the state government is taking all possible measures to eliminate Tamil, he pointed out. He urged the cadre to come together and help Tamil flourish in the state. Let us save the state from the slave government,” he stressed.
