78-yr-old sets wife ablaze in Ariyalur
A man, who reportedly torched his wife (70) and daughter (30), was arrested here on Friday. It is said, Ganesan (78) along with his wife Mangalam (70) and a widowed daughter Kalaiselvi (30) was residing in Vikkiramangalam near Muttuvancheri. It is said that both Ganesan and Mangalam used to quarrel often for hours.

Meanwhile, on Thursday night a quarrel erupted between the couple and it went on until late in the night. A furious Ganesan reportedly poured keresene over his wife Mangalam and daughter Kalaiselvi. He lighted the match, locked the house and left in a huff, paying little heed to their screams.
Upon hearing the screams of both the women, neighbours rushed to the spot and doused the fire. However, Mangalam died before help could reach her. The public rushed a badly burnt Kalaiselvi to the GH where she is said to be undergoing treatment.
On receipt of information, Jayankondam DSP Kennady visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. On Friday evening, the police arrested Ganesan.
