The Congress leader, who is also a legal professional, said, she was not dependent on the MLA salary, but many legislators cutting across party lines. “It only requires an ad hoc government order for the revision which can be later introduced in the Assembly Session as amendments and ratified,” she said.

Seconding her opinion, former Mayor and Saidapet MLA Ma Subramanian said, “What government is it which cannot implement the salary revision itself to the legislators and it stands testimony to the fact that the state is inching towards bankruptcy.”

“The people across Constituencies pin their hopes high on projects that figure in the MLACDS. Much hype has already been created and we have reached the fag end of the calendar year and only five months are left for the financial year to roll out the projects,” he said.

Sulur MLA R Kanagaraj told DT Next that he was told to wait till the next Assembly Session to kickstart when he checked with his friends in the ruling dispensation. “It seems they could do it only with necessary amendments through a Bill,” the AIADMK MLA said.

When contacted, Assembly Secretary K Boopathy said that all necessary clearances had been obtained for the salary revision. “We will place it in the House, and the revision will be effected soon after the Assembly ratifies it,” he said.

As regards the MLACDS, Finance Minister D Jayakumar said efforts would be taken to provide administrative sanction to the projects under MLACDS. “Our commitment about MLACDS would be expedited for all the development projects,” said Jayakumar, who also holds the portfolio of Personnel and Administrative Reforms.
