Tiruchy city keen on Swachh Survekshan ranking, releases logo

In order to make the residents aware that the city is trying to climb higher in the coming year, the civic body released a logo ‘Tiruchy No 1’ on Tuesday. The logo was released by Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran and received by engineer Amuthavalli.

The officials said the logo will be displayed in all key spots across the city so that it will remind each and every resident the responsibility they will have to shoulder towards maintaining the city clean. “This is just to make the people aware of the fact that the city is in the cleanliness survey race and the role of every resident is important if the city has to clinch the first rank,” said the Commissioner. 

In fact, there are as many as 4041 civic bodies that would vie for the 2018 ranking. “Tiruchy is presently focusing on to climb to the first place by promoting the best sanitary practices including solid waste management.

As part of the drive, the corporation has planned to distribute pamphlets in all the 65 wards describing the components and scoring parameters of the survey. “We have also planned to promote Swachhata Mobile App for roping in citizens in the drive to keep the city clean. The residents can use the App to alert us about the flaws in waste collection which would be rectified within 24 hours,” the Commissioner said. 

Tiruchy is already open defecation free (ODF). It has been maintaining the toilets by women self help groups. Members of these groups have been collecting segregated waste and recycling it. 

The survey for the ranking will be completed by the end of December and the results will be announced in January by the Union Ministry of Urban Development.
