Sankar, of Thanjavur, in his petition, had stated that the function has been planned on November 29 and the organisers had chosen the ground of Rajah Serfoji Government College (Autonomous) for parking of vehicles. As hundreds of vehicles are expected for the function, the organisers are creating facilities on the college ground. In fact, they have broken a part of the college compound wall to facilitate easy entry of vehicles.

To lay a new road, they have also cut down a number of trees. So, with the aim of protecting the college ground, vehicles should not be allowed to be parked there, prayed the petitioner.

When the petition was heard by judges Venugopal and Abdul Kuthus, the public prosecutor argued that permission for parking vehicles had been obtained from the district administration and works are undertaken only after obtaining proper permission. However, the judges had directed Thanjavur Collector to consider the petition and take suitable action within three days.
