Puducherry MLAs case to be heard on Tuesday
Even as the Puducherry Assembly is set to convene on November 23, the Madras High Court will hear the issue of the Speaker V Vaithilingam debarring the entry of three BJP members sworn in by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday.

The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar before whom the matter came up was inclined to adjourn the case to next Monday when Senior Counsel P S Raman appearing for the three nominated MLAs submitted that the assembly is set to convene on November 23 and hence ought to be taken up on an urgent basis. Following this, the bench agreed to hear it on Tuesday.Â
Earlier, arguing for a batch of writ petitions moved in this regard, it was submitted that the nomination had been done by an incompetent authority and hence void.Â
However, senior counsel Raman contended that though the nomination was done in July, the Speaker all along kept quiet and has now refused to accept their nomination. The Home Ministry forming part of the Centre had nominated the MLAs for the Union Territory and what else can one do to become an MLA, he added.Â
