Arputhammal who had sought time from Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and deputy CM O Panneerselvam could not meet either of them on Monday. Later in the day, she presented her petition with CM’s special cell detailing her request and recalling how the decision to release all the convicts in the case was spearheaded by the late CM J Jayalalithaa.
Speaking to DT Next, Arputhammal said that everything was falling in place for her son’s release and that the state would also play a positive role in the present case.
“Former CBI SP V Thiagarajan had admitted to omission of Arivu’s statement and he has filed an affidavit before the apex court admitting the omission. Similarly, former supreme Judge KT Thomas who had upheld the death penalty in the appeal, had urged Sonia Gandhi to write to the Centre conveying her willingness to grant remission to the convicts as they had already spent longest period of their life in prison,” she observed.
“In this backdrop, the apex court has called for a reply from state government by December 6. A conducive reply would free my son,” she added.
