Advocate attacked by police moves court for compensation
A senior advocate from Marankulam village near Radhapuram in Tirunelveli district, who was recently attacked by Tirunelveli police, had sought the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court to appoint a working Judge to probe the police attack incident and to provide him compensation of Rs 25 lakh.

The court on Monday had directed the Home Secretary, DGP and Tirunelveli Collector to file a counter affidavit by November 27. Petitioner Semmani alias Rajarathinam stated that he is practising as an advocate at Vallioor court. On August 15, he had filed a complaint against Isaac Selvakumar of Yacopuram village, but no case was registered.Â
Following which he had filed a case at the court in which he had prayed to direct the police to file a case against Isaac and had included the names of SI of Pazhavur police station, Inspector of Panakudi police station and DSP of Vallioor range, as respondents in the case. The case was adjourned to November 10.
In the meantime, on November 4 night, Radhapuram DSP, Pazhani, and Pazhavur Inspector, Vimalkumar, had gone to his house and called him to meet Vallioor DSP and Panakudi Inspector who were waiting in the car.Â
When he refused to come saying he would meet them the next day, the cops attacked him and took him to police station where he was attacked. In the incident, he had suffered fractures in his left leg. Vallioor DSP Kumar and Panakudi Inspector Jose were behind the attack and he had filed a complaint at Radhapuram police demanding action against the policemen.
