INO will open soon in TN, confirms AEC
The wheels have been set in motion to obtain clearance for an India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) project from the regulatory authority, said Sekhar Basu, chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, while he was in the city to take stock of Kalpakkam Mini Reactor (KAMINI), and Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre installations.

“Once we get clearance, Neutrino project will be setup in Theni district,” he said.
The nuclear scientist added that KAMINI was making steady progress. He added that they were commissioning the reactor using Sodium, which is a difficult task.
“In addition to the existing two at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant(KKNPP), there are as many reactors under construction while approval for two more has been obtained, and construction would follow, besides a Rs 500 crore local development package to be completed in two years.
Following INS Arihant, a submarine from the similar class is almost ready and will be handed over to the navy soon. Other future projects are also in line,” he said.
