DMK asks state to put pressure on Centre for Perarivalan's release
Leader of Opposition and DMK working president MK Stalin has urged the state government to pressurise the Centre for release of Perarivalan, a convict in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

In a statement on Friday, he said, “The AIADMK, which is stating that it maintains harmonious relationship with the BJP, should take all possible measures to release all the convicted persons, who have been imprisoned for a long time in this case.”
Stating that even a CBI official, who conducted inquiry into the assassination case, raised doubts over the involvement of Perarivalan while replying to a litigation in the Supreme Court, Stalin said, “Former judge of Supreme Court KT Thomas himself has come out in the open and raised doubts over the veracity of the judgment. He has also written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to show mercy and release them.”
Stalin said that it is a known fact that Perarivalan’s release is due to the ‘contest of honour’ between the state government and Centre. “Since the state government has taken a decision to release the convicts and sought permission from the Union government, the Centre hastily approached the Supreme Court to ban the release,” he said. “The AIADMK should press the BJP to take stock of the situation to release the convicts, including Perarivalan,” he stressed.
