Tamilisai flays leaders criticising Income Tax raids

Speaking to the media at the airport, the BJP leader said, “In no other state such strong criticisms will be levelled by political leaders against I-T raids on people who have swindled people’s money. The criticisms will be fair only if the I-T raids did not unearth anything,” she said. 

Expressing surprise at the allegations of opposition leaders, she said, “The world is wondering how huge sums of people’s money can be swindled by some persons using the state government machinery. When an administrative action is taken against such people who have plundered people’s money, so much criticism is coming out from political leaders. The leaders are answerable to the people.” 

Rejecting the charges of TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasar that the I-T raids are politically motivated to weaken one side of the AIADMK and strengthen the other side of AIADMK to form an electoral alliance with the latter, she said the allegations are totally wrong and baseless. Congress leader Thirunavukkarasar should answer the findings of an enquiry commission in solar panel scam against former Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy. Former Union Minister P Chidambaram was also making allegations against the I-T raids and he should first explain the charges faced by his son Karti Chidambaram, she said. 

Referring to questions from Thirunavukkarasar why such action was not taken when former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was alive, the BJP leader said, “After the BJP government assumed power at the Centre, Jayalalithaa was in power for about a year only. She became ill and was getting treatment.” But, there were charges against Jayalalithaa when the Congress was in power earlier, she said and asked why the Congress government did not initiate action against her.
